That combined with the birth of 2 litters of rabbits lately had me feeling like production was really starting to smooth out. But we had a down turn this weekend and lost the most recent litter of bunnies to the intense cold. Mamma rabbit pulled alot of fur and the nest looked good, but the bottom of the box was just too cold and we had to come to terms with the loss of 10 young ones. Not the kind of results I was looking for. Those babies had the bad luck to be born 1 day before the weather turned seriously cold and as snug as the barn was, it just wasn't enough. We have adjusted the heating and insulation in the barn and believe that even in that kind of cold, the next batch would survive.
Here is to accepting the good with the bad and learning from our mistakes.
